Jean-Gabrielle Short

MCouns, BSW, DipAoD

MSex (2026)

I am an Accredited Social Worker and DBT Therapist with 15 years of clinical experience, specialising in Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex PTSD, and other complex mental health presentations. I have undertaken advanced training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), and trauma-informed practice. I am currently completing further postgraduate study in Sexology, a field that informs and deepens my practice by expanding my understanding of identity, sexuality, and relational wellbeing.

My work is grounded in
evidence-based, trauma-informed, and gender-affirming approaches that honour the complexity and dignity of each individual.

Before founding Wise-Mind DBT Brisbane, I worked across community, mental health, and forensic settings, supporting people experiencing suicidality, substance use, and significant relational trauma. I have always been drawn to work that requires both clinical depth and human connection.

I love this work because it allows me to witness people reclaim their stories, their voice, and their lives. I am especially passionate about supporting clients who have felt misunderstood or marginalised in mental health systems. Outside of therapy, you’ll often find me reading theory or writing assignments, watering my plants, or wandering through second-hand bookstores.
Also, dogs.
Wise-Mind DBT is a dog-friendly environment, and I always encourage clients to bring their dogs to sessions.

I draw from DBT, RO-DBT, Attachment Theory, Sexological frameworks, and Harm Reduction principles.

My practice is shaped by an
intersectional awareness of how trauma, identity, and systemic forces interact, and by a commitment to offering compassionate, affirming, and practical care.

Please note: As Clinical Director of Wise-Mind DBT Brisbane, I spend much of my time working directly with complex referrals. I primarily support individuals with high-risk presentations who may benefit from structured, skills-based interventions and longer-term therapeutic engagement.

At this time, I am taking Direct Referrals only.

Jacob Delaney

AMHSW, BSW

I’m an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with experience across a range of mental health settings, including acute care, community mental health, and specialist forensic services, treating both individual clients and facilitating group psychotherapy sessions. This breadth of experience has shaped my flexible, trauma-informed approach and deepened my understanding of the complex ways mental health challenges can show up in people’s lives.

In my clinical practice, I have supported clients with a wide range of mental health challenges, and I have notable experience working with people with Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex PTSD, and conditions affecting mood and emotion.

I draw on evidence-based modalities, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to support insight, resilience, and meaningful change. It is through these modalities that I aim to help people connect to their values, set behavioural goals, and develop effective tools and coping strategies to navigate life’s challenges with poise and less resistance.

Whatever it is that you are navigating, rest assured we’ll work together to explore what matters most to you—with care, humour, and humanity.

Outside the therapy room, you’ll most likely find me surfing, camping, or cooking with way too much chilli—anything that brings a bit of adventure and flavour to life.

Please Note: Jacob is currently Mental Health Care Plans.
