Six Week DBT Anger Skills Group

Do you find anger escalates quickly, leads to conflict, or feels difficult to manage once it shows up?

Learn practical skills to understand anger, reduce reactivity, and respond more effectively in everyday situations.

Our six week Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Anger Management Program is a structured, evidence-based program designed for adults who experience intense anger, irritability, or conflict-driven distress. The group focuses on skill development rather than blame or suppression and is facilitated by experienced DBT therapists in a supportive, non-judgemental environment.

Who the group is for.

This program is designed for adults who experience anger that feels overwhelming, escalates quickly, or causes difficulties in relationships, work, or daily life. It may be helpful for people who notice patterns of reactivity, resentment, or regret  following conflict and who want practical strategies to respond differently.

The group is suitable for individuals currently engaged in therapy as well as those attending as a standalone intervention. No previous DBT experience is required.

What you will learn.

Across six weeks, the program provides a focused and practical application of DBT skills specifically for working with anger and reactivity in real life contexts.

The first week focuses on understanding anger through a DBT lens. Participants learn how anger develops, the difference between primary and secondary anger, and how emotional escalation occurs in the body and mind.

Weeks two and three focus on reducing emotional vulnerability and managing physiological arousal. Participants learn how factors such as stress, exhaustion, and accumulated emotion increase reactivity, and practise skills to regulate anger early before it escalates.

In week four, participants learn the Check the Facts skill. This component supports individuals to identify assumptions, interpretations, and threat-based thinking that can intensify anger, and to respond based on what is actually happening rather than perceived intent.

Week five focuses on interpersonal effectiveness. Participants develop skills for expressing anger, setting boundaries, and communicating needs clearly without damaging relationships or self-respect.

The final week brings the skills together, focusing on working with ongoing resentment, letting go of unhelpful anger, and developing a personalised plan for responding differently beyond the group.

Benefits you can expect.

By the end of the program, participants commonly report feeling more in control of their reactions, greater clarity about what drives their anger, and increased confidence in managing conflict. Many people notice reduced regret after difficult interactions, improved communication, and a more balanced relationship with anger rather than feeling overwhelmed or defined by it.

Participants leave with a practical set of DBT skills that can be applied immediately and continued long after the group has finished.
