Wise Mind Mindfulness
Do you find it hard to stay present when emotions intensify or stress builds?
Do your thoughts pull you into the past or future, leaving you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected?
The Wise-Mind DBT Mindfulness Group is a structured skills based program focused on building present moment awareness and expanding capacity to stay grounded during emotional intensity.
This group introduces and practises core Dialectical Behaviour Therapy mindfulness skills in a supportive, non-judgemental environment, led by experienced DBT therapists.
Mindfulness in DBT is not about relaxation, clearing the mind, or forcing calm. It is about learning to notice what is happening internally and externally, on purpose, in the present moment, without judgement, and with effectiveness. These skills form the foundation of emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and behavioural choice.
Who the group is for.
This group is designed for adults who feel easily overwhelmed by internal experiences such as thoughts, emotions, or physical sensations, and who want practical tools to increase steadiness and awareness.
It may be particularly helpful for people who experience emotional reactivity, dissociation, anxiety, or difficulty staying present during stress.
The group is suitable for individuals currently engaged in therapy as well as those attending as a standalone skills group. No previous DBT experience is required.
What you will learn.
Across the program, participants develop practical mindfulness skills that can be applied to everyday life, emotional challenges, and moments of distress.
Each session focuses on a structured experiential mindfulness practice designed to strengthen the DBT mindfulness WHAT skills of observing, describing, and participating, alongside the HOW skills of non-judgement, one-mindfulness, and effectiveness.
Participants learn how mindfulness supports nervous system regulation through repetition, sensory awareness, and grounding, helping to widen the window of tolerance and reduce automatic reactivity.
Program overview
Participants attend a weekly mindfulness based group where one core exercise is practised each session. Activities are experiential and varied, supporting different learning styles and levels of tolerance for internal experience.
Weekly themes may include mindful eating, body awareness, sensory grounding, mindful movement, visual mindfulness, and guided meditation. Each activity is explicitly linked to DBT skills and framed in clear, practical language.
Benefits you can expect.
Participants often report increased awareness of internal experience, improved ability to stay present during emotional intensity, and greater confidence in responding rather than reacting.
Many people notice reduced emotional overwhelm, improved grounding, and a more compassionate relationship with their own thoughts and emotions.
Participants leave with practical mindfulness skills they can continue to use to support emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and everyday effectiveness.
