Jean Short

Clinical Director

I am an Accredited Social Worker and DBT Therapist with 15 years of clinical experience specialising in Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex PTSD, and other complex presentations.

My practice is grounded in advanced training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Radically Open DBT, trauma-informed care, and ongoing postgraduate study in Sexology, which strengthens my work with issues of identity, sexuality, and relational wellbeing.

Before founding Wise-Mind DBT Brisbane, I worked across community, mental health, and forensic settings where I supported individuals experiencing suicidality, substance use, and significant relational trauma.

These environments shaped my commitment to evidence-based, gender-affirming, and intersectional practice that honours the complexity and dignity of every person.

My approach integrates DBT, RO-DBT, attachment-informed frameworks, sexological theory, and harm reduction principles to offer compassionate, practical, and deeply informed care for clients who have often felt misunderstood or marginalised within traditional mental health systems.

As Clinical Director, I focus on providing high-level therapeutic support for individuals with complex and high-risk presentations who benefit from structured DBT interventions and longer-term engagement.

Susan South

DBT Therapist

I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, and my practice is anchored in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. DBT is the foundation of my clinical work, guiding how I support clients to develop emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and greater stability in their day to day lives.

My DBT practice is informed by extensive experience in the alcohol and other drugs sector, where I have worked with individuals navigating the combined impacts of trauma, substance use, and profound nervous system dysregulation.

Although DBT sits at the centre of my therapeutic work, I also draw on secondary modalities including Emotional Freedom Technique, Brainspotting, Polyvagal Theory, somatic vagus nerve practices, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. These approaches allow me to respond flexibly to complex trauma presentations while maintaining a grounded, evidence-based structure.

My work is trauma informed, inclusive, and shaped by a strong social justice framework that recognises the systemic and relational contexts of mental health. I aim to offer therapy that honours each person’s lived experience and supports them to move towards safety, steadiness, and meaningful change

Jacob Delaney

DBT Therapist

I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with experience across acute mental health, community services, and specialist forensic settings, working with both individuals and groups.

This breadth of practice has shaped a flexible, trauma-informed approach and a deep appreciation for the diverse ways mental health challenges can affect people’s lives. I have supported clients with a wide range of presentations, with particular experience in Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex PTSD, and conditions that influence mood, emotional regulation, and relationships.

My clinical work is grounded in evidence-based practice, and I draw primarily on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. These models guide my focus on helping clients build insight, strengthen emotional resilience, and create meaningful, values-aligned change. Together, we work toward developing practical skills and coping strategies that support steadiness, clarity, and a more workable relationship with difficulty.

Whatever you are navigating, I aim to offer a space where we explore what matters most to you with care, curiosity, and a good sense of humanity.
