Comprehensive DBT Group Program
Comprehensive DBT Skills Group
Are you facing challenges in managing intense emotions, navigating distressing situations, or sustaining healthy relationships?
Learn practical tools to manage emotions, reduce distress, and build a life worth living.
Our
Comprehensive DBT Group Program is a structured, evidence-based program designed for people who want to develop effective coping strategies, improve relationships, and strengthen emotional resilience. The group is led by experienced DBT therapists in a supportive, non-judgemental environment.
Who the group is for.
The Comprehensive DBT Group is designed for adults who experience intense or rapidly changing emotions, self-harm or suicidal thoughts, impulsive behaviours, recurring crises, relationship difficulties, or persistent problems managing distress. It may also benefit people who feel overwhelmed by anger, shame, anxiety or sadness, struggle to communicate their needs or maintain boundaries, or rely on unhelpful behaviours to cope with emotional pain.
Participants do not need a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder, as suitability is determined according to each person’s needs, risks, treatment goals and capacity to participate in the full DBT program.
What you will learn.
Across the program, participants are introduced to the four core skill areas of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, with a strong emphasis on practising these skills and applying them to everyday emotional, behavioural and interpersonal challenges. Mindfulness is incorporated throughout the program and supports participants to strengthen present-moment awareness, access Wise Mind, observe and describe internal experiences, reduce judgemental thinking, and respond more deliberately rather than reacting automatically.
The Emotion Regulation module teaches participants to identify and name emotions, understand factors that increase emotional vulnerability, and use strategies such as Check the Facts, Opposite Action, Problem Solving, accumulating positive experiences, building mastery, Cope Ahead and PLEASE.
The Interpersonal Effectiveness module supports participants to communicate more clearly, manage conflict, establish boundaries and maintain self-respect within relationships. Participants learn practical frameworks including DEAR MAN for asking for what they need, GIVE for maintaining relationships and FAST for protecting self-respect, while also developing greater flexibility, validation skills and confidence in navigating difficult interpersonal situations.
Benefits you can expect.
By the end of the program, participants commonly report greater
emotional steadiness, increased
confidence in managing difficult moments, improved relationship patterns, and a more
compassionate stance towards themselves. They leave with a comprehensive set of practical DBT skills they can continue to use long after the group has concluded.
Mindfulness
This module focuses on cultivating present-moment awareness without judgment. Mindfulness skills are essential for individuals to observe and describe their experiences, fostering a non-reactive and centred approach to life.
Distress Tolerance
Individuals learn skills to navigate and tolerate distressing situations without resorting to impulsive or destructive behaviours. This module equips individuals with effective coping mechanisms during crises.
Emotional Regulation
Targeting the core of emotional dysregulation, this module teaches individuals to identify, understand, and manage their emotions in a healthy manner. Emotion regulation skills empower individuals to break free from the cycle of emotional chaos.
Interpersonal Effectiveness
This module enhances individuals' ability to navigate and improve interpersonal relationships. It provides skills for effective communication, assertiveness, and conflict resolution, promoting healthier connections with others.
